Focus On Life - Week 2

My Word

Structure is something I definitely need to work on this year. I'm terribly dis-organised and I find it really stressful sometimes.
I get into ruts where I can't be bothered doing anything...and so some days I don't. This then put's me behind schedule and I get flustered and then stressed because I have so many things to do. I have work days, housework days, beading days, order/packing days, claying days, family days and lying about doing nothing days...I let things get on top of me.

I need a rota, I need to do little bits of each thing, each day...instead of letting them mount up. I need to utilise the things and people around me a bit more, ask for help instead of trying to be super woman.

So even though there are many words...schedule, utilise, dis-organised, stressful, flustered...that I could use, I'll go for the one that encompasses them all and one that sounds a little more useful and positive than the others...Structure.

  1. That's a great word - and a fine plan for the year!
The only way I can find structure is by a routine - starting the day with a quiet 5 minutes, followed by writing a list for the day, and what Julia Cameron called Morning Pages to get all the clutter out of my brain and onto the page...
Hope you find a structure that works for you!
I'm no. 21 on the list btw :)
PS I love your blog background!

  4. Great word and one that I need to paste up on my wall this year also. I find it difficult to 'structure' myself though.

  5. Funny how I want to adopt every word I see when doing this hop--your's included. I seem to have no structure when I move through the days, mainly because I have so much to do I don't know where to start. I give up easily and later make excuses. Wishing you the best with your goals and your new word for the year.

  7. Oh, can't we all use more structure! That simple word, and I love the faux Polaroid. Sort of implies taking photos as we go - old school style!

  10. Great word. I am with you on that one. Things seem to get away from me faster than I'd like and some organizaion and structure - and sticking to them - would be lovely!! Great shot and great word for the year!

  11. Oh there is a trend going on with words chosen this year for sure! I love the word "Structure" - it must be the OCD in me! Kudos to attempting to ask for help - I need to start doing that myself!

  12. This word is perfect (can I steal for next year!). I can totally relate to this word and not doing what needs to be done and then it piles ontop of you and you start to freak out. I hope this helps you for this year!

  17. Oh goodness! You are describing my life! I am like you in that I get overwhelmed by the sheer avalanche of responsibilities that pile up and block my vision! I think that this will be a powerful word for framing your year. I wish you joy in the journey this year! Enjoy the day. Erin

  18. oh yes I like it. Structure to me feels strong and determined. I'm right there with you trying to understand how I let myself leave so much to the last minute at times, literally driving myself to disctraction and making things so much harder than they should be. Please when you get a system do share!!

  19. I know just what you mean, it's so hard to have structure all the time in your life, it seems things just come along and sweep you along with it and before long everything is out of control again! Great word for the year!
